We’ll be staying at the fantastic Stationmaster’s Hostel. Situated on the banks of Lochcarron, it is within range of loads of awesome hills. These include the hills of Achnashellach, with the marvellous sandstone giants Sgorr Ruadh and Beinn Liath Mhor to the north, and plenty of shapely peaks to the south. You can also get to the epic ridges of Glen Shiel – which includes the South Shiel Ridge, an epic 7 munro ridge walk, the Brothers and Sisters of Kintail on the northern side and the forkin’ awesome Forcan Ridge.

The Applecross peninsula is also close by – with the famous Applecross Inn and its delicious scallops – in case you didn’t quite get your fill on the previous trip to Torridon!

With only 20 beds, the hostel has a homely feel, as it used to be the railway station master’s residence. It has a wood-pellet burning fire, pool table (that doubles as the dining table!) a comfy lounge and is full of all sorts of strange trinkets.

  1. I will be up for doing some of the Achnashellach hills. Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgorr Ruadh on the Saturday, and perhaps Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a’ Chaorachain on the Sunday. See how the weather is etc…
