==About Ullapool==
Ullapool is a charming fishing village and port on the far northwest coast
of Scotland. It's a long way north, but it's a fast road so it's only 5
hours including a chip stop. Staying in Ullapool opens up a huge area of
empty mountain country, with such inspiring, Munro-rich mountain ranges as
the famous An Teallach, Beinn Dearg range and the Fannaichs close at hand,
for everything from single peaks to challenging ridges. But it has to be
stressed that though there are plenty big peaks to go round, the best walks
in the far north are lower in altitude: the smaller but distinctly
individual hills of Assynt which rise dramatically from the lochan-scattered
lowlands of Assynt and Coigach (made of the oldest rocks in Scotland!).
Hills like the remote, improbable Suilven; the more accessible Culs Mòr and
Beag with their spectacular views (if the weather is good); and wee Stac
Pollaidh for a short day trying your hand at scrambling, whatever your
experience of hands-on walking. For lazy days, the lochs, glens and coast
provide ample ambles - and the Culnacraig coast path is a surprisingly rough
but lovely walk.
The hostel is comfortable, with a good kitchen and a large dining room and
two small but comfy common rooms, but its location right in the middle of
the village seafront means it's probably the best location of any hostel for
the nightlife and facilities. There are a handful of excellent pubs in the
village, some nice teashops and galleries, and a Tesco supermarket, which is
open daily. There is also live music on Saturday night at the Argyll pub.
Depending on the weather we may be able to have a beach barbecue, and possibly even a
swim - just ask Peter B. and Sarah C, or see the yearbook article!

===Presigns===
We need drivers (both minibus and cars) who will get an advanced signup if they reply to
Eva: E.L.Baxter@sms.ed.ac.uk, Monday before 4PM. We especially encourage drivers with own
vehicles to come along as we have booked the entire hostel (52 beds) but we have only 2x17 seater
buses available. The more the merrier don't you think? As usual drivers get
a £10 discount on the price of the weekend.
We will be offering limited walk organiser pre signs. Again, please get in touch with Eva
(E.L.Baxter@sms.ed.ac.uk) before 4PM on Monday.
