We are offering places on a Winter Skills course, to be held at Firbush 27th Feb-1st March 2009. This is an opportunity to learn and practice using ace axes and crampons, and to gain experience in walking and navigating in winter conditions. There is snow on the Scottish hills for most of the academic year so these skills are absolutely necessary for venturing out safely into the hills. Teaching is provided by fully qualified mountain instructors (Mountain Instructor Certificate or Winter Mountain Leader). This course should give you the confidence to lead walks for the club or walk independently in winter conditions.
As people who went on the Navigation Skills Course will confirm, Firbush is absolutely brilliant. It's in a really pretty setting, the food is fantastic and the instructors are fun and incredibly knowledgeable.
The cost of the weekend is £55 including transport. The club is subsidising the trip for you (it would be £86 per place otherwise), so it really is a bargain.
The sign up will be next Tuesday (20th January) at 8pm, in Doctors. To avoid confusion this will be before the Burns weekend signup at 8.30pm. You'll need to pay for the trip when you sign up. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
