No Jeans Please!Dangerous Items You Must Not Wear
Now here for the fashion advice. We ask that you don't wear any of the following for your own safety. The items below are fine for going around town but not for climbing up Scottish hills.
If you wear any of these items you run the risk of not being taken on the walk for your own safety! You have been warned.
- Trainers, these give no support and little grip. Trail/approach shoes lack ankle support and are also NOT ALLOWED. You must wear walking boots with ankle support and good grip and, in winter, a STIFF SOLED BOOT is essential (see Winter Equipment)
- Ponchos or cycling capes: strong winds may turn you into an involuntary hang-glider, they rip easily and have no warmth.
- Jeans or cotton trousers - very heavy when wet, take a long time to dry and will drain body heat dangerously. They are still totally unacceptable under waterproof trousers; they will get wet at the bottom and water will quickly soak upwards.
- Cotton tops can also be dangerous when wet. For base layers wool or synthetics are prefered. Cotton polo shirts with crocodiles on them are also unfashionable.
JEANS AND TRAINERS ARE TOTALLY FORBIDDEN!
