Training

ML TrainingML TrainingWalk organisers will try to get the whole group involved in navigating and this will teach you some of the basic skills. However, to reach a high standard you'll need both professional training and experience. We offer (and subsidise) two separate weekend courses at Firbush, the University's Outdoor Centre on Loch Tay, to provide members with professional training in navigation and winter skills.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland also runs courses at Glenmore Lodge that are sometimes offered at heavily discounted prices to members. There are, however, limited places available, so keep your eyes open forannouncements!

Mountain Leader Award

The ML is the nationally recognised qualification for leading groups of walkers in the hills and mountains and the club always aims to have a few members with this award. The qualification is acquired after a period of experience recorded in a logbook, a six-day training course, further experience (normally a year or two) and a five-day assessment course. We have already run two training courses at Firbush in May and September 2008. If you are interested please get involved, start organising walks and make yourself known to Claire (Training Sec)!

For more information on the ML scheme please visit Mountain Leader Training UK.
