Good evening, Hillwalkers!
As I’m sure you’ll have seen dearest El Presidente has run off on a
crazy magnificent adventure to Morocco, and I’m sure will be back will some terrifying educational stories….
But for now in the tradition of despot countries globally I have launched a coup (am writing the weekly email)!
Firstly and most importantly it is your new leaders birthday, so bow down and bring me pints at the pub!!! Now onto other news…
Coming Weekend: (Delayed) February Day Trips *Spots available!*
This coming weekend, March 3rd & March 4th, we will be running two day trips. On day trips we leave early in the morning and return in the evening, with locations To Be Determined, as day trips give us the freedom to simply follow the best weather!
As spaces have become available there will be sign-up tomorrow at the pub at 8.30! The trip will cost £15 (£5 for drivers), cash or cheque only.
BAKE SALE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
To raise awareness for the SMR fundraiser and money for the cause, we will be holding multiple bake sales on Tuesday, March 7th. We are in need of volunteers who can bake and/or man a bake sale table at JCMB, Central Library, or the Vet School. Please email Monika to let her know if you can bring something and lend a hand to the sale any time on March 7th.
March 10th-12th: Glencoe Trip
With a winter coat on the land (for now…) we are heading back to Glencoe, one of the most majestic and most-photographed glens in all of Scotland. You won’t want to miss Glencoe. We’re booked out both the Glencoe SYHA and the Ind. Alpine Bunkhouse in preparation for a big crowd.
The trip will cost £45 (£25 for car drivers, £35 for bus drivers) and signup will be on March 7th at 8:30pm in the Southsider.
If you are EUHWC Alumni or a non-alumni DRIVER and would like to sign up to our 30th anniversary trip to Glencoe on March 10th-12th, contact Callum Girdwood at firstname.lastname@example.org to put your name down on the list now. We now have 35 presigns and still have 21 spots!
Scottish Mountain Rescue Fundraiser 11th March
As you will now no doubt be aware on the 11th of March we are running a fundraiser for mountain rescue, getting involved simple, just climb a hill – any hill – take a summit shot, donate to SMRA via our JustGiving Page and you’ll get a link how to submit your photo and potentially win one of our many prizes!
Annual General Meeting (AGM) March 18th
Is it that time of year again?
Don your dancing shoes and your voting gloves because the EUHWC AGM is fast approaching! Meet us on March 18th at 6:30pm in the St Giles’ Parish Church in Marchmont. You may only vote in the AGM or run for a Committee position if you attend the University of Edinburgh – Secretary Rebecca will outline how to run for Committee in a coming email. If you don’t attend the University of Edinburgh, we still need your help to count votes!
Ceilidh ticket: £7
Yes, you get a discount on the ceilidh ticket for attending the AGM. You also get a bottomless glass of FREE WINE at the AGM (this will all be gone by the ceilidh), as well as free food. Register your interest on the Facebook event. Tickets will be on sale every week at the pub starting this Tuesday – just find Imogen or Rosie.
Would you like your artwork plastered on EUHWC clothing? Would you like your design to be EUHWC’s new logo? We are running our Club Logo Change simultaneously with our usual clothing logo competition – we plan to upgrade both our website and logo over the summer to "keep up with the times". Create a simple design before March 16th and send your entry to Jonathan. May contain Hamish but Hamish is not a requirement.
For those unsure of who/what Hamish is….he’s the cow on the current logo
Few short points from our training and safety officer….
a) The 1st April First Aid course has been cancelled, apologies for this.
b) On the Glencoe trip there will be free training with Nick Carter, this is awesome training which I know people got a lot out of last year so if you are interested email Harry.
c) "Do you see yourself in committee and/or organising walks next academic year? Davy Virdee (MIC) is all ours the weekend 28th -30th April at Tomintoul. He will do a good old round up of the skills it takes to plan and execute an awesome day out in Scotland, and get you thinking about what it means to be the most experienced member in a group. Two days of training for £20 = massive bargain. Email Harry if you are interested.
Tomorrow at the Pub
SIGN UP FOR THIS WEEKEND!!! 8.30pm @ THE SOUTHSIDER!
EUHWC Vice-President and Leader of the Coup D’état
On behalf of your soon to return El Presidente
A note from Monika: Stay safe out there in the hills, everyone. The mountains are far, far greater than us. Use the training and skill you have acquired, especially in winter. There is no summit worth a risk. There is no risk worth a life. You all mean the world to me, every member of this Club. Please stay safe and respect the hills.
