The club is run by a committee of 13 people, and this years committee is listed below. If you would like to get in touch with any of us please use our contact form, or come and speak to us on a Tuesday evening at our regular pub meet. President: Monika O’Shea. Welcome to EUHWC! As President, I am the organizational steamroller behind the Committee, though you will first encounter me in the form of my EUHWC weekly emails. I am from Massachusetts, a fine green place with lots of trees, and in my 4th year of a Geophysics degree. Upon meeting me, your first impression may be that I have no interests other than hillwalking and eating… but I can assure you I also enjoy running, reading, skiing, and playing piano. If you have any questions about the Club, just contact me or find me in the pub on Tuesday as I can happily converse about the Club for hours. Monika will be organising the November trip to Torridon and Burns! Secretary: Imogen Christopher. As Secretary, Imogen is in charge of the club’s administration. This includes liaising with the Sport’s Union, Mountaineering Scotland and other organisations, record keeping and making essential bookings. Imogen is a 4th year Chemistry student from Southport in Merseyside. When not climbing hills or crying about chemistry she can be found making delicious baked goods or planning which hills she’s going to climb next. If you have any questions about membership then Imogen is the person to talk to! She can be found at the pub most weeks and can be contacted by email. Imogen will be organising the Christmas trip and Exams trip to Acheninver. Treasurer: Jonathan Osborne. I’m Jonathan. I like Imogen. I’m in charge of the money for the club. I like Imogen. I study maths. I like Imogen. I like Munros. I like Imogen. I dislike faffs. I like Imogen. Jonathan will be organising the Halloween trip to Braemar and the trip to Glencoe in February. Vice President and Alumni Officer: Daniel Genkins. I’m a fourth year Mathematical Physicist from Kilmarnock (do not go there, it bad.) This year I will be the Vice President and Alumni Officer for the club, so I will be doing a lot with regards to the Alumni Trip in March, organising the Mountain Rescue fund raising event, and helping other people with their roles (as I don’t really do much). I also believe I can make claim to the position of grumpy b@!^%$d of the committee. Daniel will be organising the Loch Lochy fresher’s trip and the Ratagan Alumni trip. Meet Secretary: Colin Irving. Hi I’m Colin and I’m this year’s meet sec. I am 22 years old and when I grow up I want to be a doctor. This is my third year in the club, and my responsibility this year is booking the hostels and coordinating the drivers and transport for each of our trips. I’m also told I’m the emergency contact for every trip which sounds fun. For some reason in recent times I seem to have developed a bit of a reputation for bagging munros, which I can assure you is an utterly mendacious claim with no basis to it. Mostly. Aside from walking, I love climbing, baking, cooking and sometimes make time to read. I suspect my defining feature is the colour of my jacket (see photo) which certain committee members have very strong opinions on. See you on the hill xoxoxox. Colin will be organising the fresher’s Loch Lochy trip and the Exams trip to Acheninver. Safety Secretary: Nathan Rhind. Nathan is my name, and safety and training is my game. I’m a 3rd year physicist from Forres. I’ve loved everywhere hill walking has taken me so far, and I’ve had a good laugh with some great people. I’m also into climbing, cycling, and running, and I like to combine them all! I’m always up for an adventure; at the moment I’m excited for my upcoming trip to the Dolomites in Italy, taking on some of the Black Cuillin in Skye and making EUHWC a great club to learn in. I really want everyone to get the most they can out of the club and develop their skills in the hills to the absolute max – I’ll be organizing some brilliant events to help you do that. Whether your aiming to achieve well recognized mountain training qualifications or gain confidence to take on the Scottish wilderness safely I’d absolutely love to hear about it and help you get there! even if it’s not currently on the training plan if you want to learn something let me know! Nathan will be organising the Burns trip and the Easter trip to Syke. Gear Secretary: Kate Wilkinson. Hi! I’m Kate, I’m an English Literature student from Scotland and New Zealand. I’m the Gear Secretary for the club, so am in charge of looking after all the equipment on trips, such as maps, ice axes and crampons. Feel free to get in touch with me if you want to borrow any gear for non-club trips, and if you have an idea about new equipment you think the club could need I’d love to hear it! Kate will be organising the fresher’s trip to Kinlochleven and the end of year trip to Arran. Publicity Officer: Emma Carroll. Hi it’s Emma Carroll here… yep another one. I’m a third year geology and physical geography student. I will be the lovely publicity officer this year, trying to get all the freshers to join the hillwalking club through various events. Hobbies include collecting and identifying rocks on every walk, trying to be the most enthusiastic person on every trip, Tuesday night Hive sessions and not being able to pronounce the names of any munros. This will be my third year in the club so I should be able to answer any questions so feel free to ask me any questions! Emma will be organising the fresher’s trip to Kinlochleven and the end of year trip to Arran. Social Secretary: Stephen Waddell. Alright lads and lassies, are yeas ready fir a night out? From piss-ups to quiet nights with the fam, we’ve got it covered this year. Chatting a-way through all this merriment will be me with some classic Glesgae bants. If yer no clued in I’ll be the Social Sec this year. It’ll be quite the year! But it’s not all bants back in tweed-town. Saying ‘Hello World’ away from my Comp Sci student-life: stepping into that mighty beautiful clean Northerner air, is as a delight to me as any other. So if you fancy a chat or a bleather (and think you’re up to the task of understanding me), send us a line 🙂 Stephen will be organising the trip to Glencoe! Social Secretary: Ieva Cepaite. Ieva “wait she was just there where did she go oh no” Čepaitė is a Computational Physics student who is still not quite sure how she made it to fourth year. She likes piña coladas and getting caught in the rain but only if said rain is on a hillside and that hillside is the Aonach Eagach or something equally as stupidly dangerous. She doesn’t care much for appropriate gear (though she recommends everyone else get all the right stuff and in no way condones the use of laptops on hilltops) and is generally there to make everyone else feel a little less like the stress of University finally broke them. If you need someone to talk at you for a very long while, you can go and find her on some form of roof in the vicinity. Ieva will be organising the Halloween trip in Braemar! Webmaster: Emma Carroll-Monteil. Wait, another Emma Carroll? You got it. Buckle up and get ready for a whole year of confusion! To help you differentiate between us, here are some fun facts about myself: I’m a third year Psychology student from Hong Kong (it’s a long story), and I love walking, climbing, puns, and food! I take care of any web-related things, such as this (hopefully) lovely website, the mailing lists, facebook page, the photo competition, and so on. If you have any questions about the club, website, or anything in general, please don’t hesitate to ask – I don’t bite! (After all, I’m a vegan…). I will be organising the Christmas trip in the Lake district and the Easter trip in Skye and they’re going to be amazing. Random Bod: Frazer Jarvis. I’m Frazer, a second year Physicist from Essex. I’m here on this committee as a random bod, present to assist with all of the shenanigans and happenings of our club, and also here to provide representation for the freshers we have. You’ll sometimes find me with a camera, a stove or even a bike on a hill, or perhaps giving a lecture about rocks. They’re strange, fearsome creatures you know. In all seriousness, if you have any questions at all, especially you new members, then contact me however you see fit and I guarantee to at least improve your situation, if not make you laugh. Frazer will be organising the Alumni trip to Ratagan and the end of year trip to Arran. Random Bod: Gemma Bruce. Hello! I’m one of your Random Bods this year and a 2nd year Classics student. Apart from being in the hillz I also love climbing, reading, and a refreshing dip in cold Scottish water! My job is to lend a hand wherever it’s needed and help out any newbies if they are unsure about the various workings of the club. See you soon hopefully on some lovely Scottish hillsides! Gemma will be organising the trip to Torridon and the Easter trip to Skye.
